It's playoff time, and Forsyth had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Houston Tigers 56-35 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won five games in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Forsyth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maverick Blevins, who picked up 200 receiving yards and two TDs. Blevins was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 65 yards. Tamarkus Holmes was in the mix too, providing Forsyth with two scores.
Forsyth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. They are a perfect 7-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Blevins, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Tucker Venn and Dj Riley certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Venn rushed for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, while Riley rushed for 161 yards and two TDs. Houston is 2-1 when Riley posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 2-5 otherwise.
Forsyth's record is now 7-3. As for Houston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Looking ahead, Forsyth will take on Springfield Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Houston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
