The Margaretta Polar Bears will venture away from home to take on the Edison Chargers at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Margaretta has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with five straight losses, while Edison will come in with three straight wins.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Margaretta and Huron meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Polar Bears came up short against the Tigers, falling 16-3.
Elianna Young made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Brooke Hastings was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Edison had just enough and edged out Norwalk 2-1 on Thursday. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Chargers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Abby Cloud spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Edison's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Stella Brown, who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Edison pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Margaretta, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Margaretta has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Margaretta suffered a grim 22-3 defeat to Edison in their previous matchup on April 11th. Can the Polar Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
