Basketball Recap: Corvian Community Cardinals vs. Cannon Cougars
Corvian Community was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Cannon Cougars, falling 97-62. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 78-47 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.

Despite the defeat, Corvian Community saw an underclassman step up: sophomore RJ Moore went 12 of 22 en route to 29 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Moore's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maxwell Garvin, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Corvian Community was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Kenan Dixon, who went 11 of 22 on his way to 31 points and four steals for Cannon. Dixon has been hot, having posted 19 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Nix, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Corvian Community's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Cannon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Corvian Community Cardinals take on the Langtree Charter Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Langtree Charter Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Corvian Community likes a good challenge. Cannon and Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cannon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 76 points per game this season.
