Football Recap: Eunice Takes Down Santa Rosa in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Eunice rose to the challenge on Saturday. They breezed past the Santa Rosa Lions to the tune of 49-14. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Elijah Melancon, who threw for 160 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 93 yards on only 12 carries. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Melancon was just one part of a punishing run game: Eunice was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 355 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Rosa only rushed for 123.

Although Santa Rosa took the loss, they still got scores from Preston Muniz and Marcos Velasquez.

The victory was the third in a row for Eunice, bringing their record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points over those games. As for Santa Rosa, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

Coming up, Eunice will square off against Legacy Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Silverbacks' defense has only allowed 8.9 points per game this season, so the Cardinals' offense will have their work cut out for them. Santa Rosa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
