Softball Recap: Clay City Comes Up Short

If Clay City was riding high fresh off their 13-3 takedown of South Vermillion on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eels took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bloomfield Cardinals on Wednesday. The Eels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Mariah Scott made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Clay City's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 15-8. As for Bloomfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Clay City is set to face off against their familiar foe Eastern Greene at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Bloomfield will take on rival White River Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
