Football Recap: Lanier Beats Holmes County Central for Their Eighth Straight Win

Lanier strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They enjoyed a cozy 38-22 win over the Holmes County Central Jaguars. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 54-6 victory the Jaguars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2016.

Leading Lanier to victory were Knolyn Bailey and Darrell Roberts. Bailey rushed for 225 yards and two TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per carry, while Roberts rushed for 115 yards and one score. Bailey is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 110 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lanier was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 464 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lanier's defense and their three sacks. Gercai Carson refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Jamison Kelly was another major factor on D, making seven total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging two interceptions.

Lanier's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Holmes County Central, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Lanier has already played their next matchup, a 34-28 victory against Florence on the 24th. As for Holmes County Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 42-0 win against Provine on the 24th.
