Murphy had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Baker Hornets as they made off with a 71-48 victory. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 67-62 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Murphy to victory were Kenneth Smith and Cordairus Dixon. Smith went 6-for-11 en route to 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Dixon shot 44% from the field to rack up 20 points and five steals. Those 15 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinley Simmons, who posted eight points and seven boards.

Coming up, Murphy and Hoover will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. As for Baker, they will challenge Theodore at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
