Football Recap: Columbia Piles Up the Points Against Northwestern

Columbia strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past the Northwestern Huskies to the tune of 49-0. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Huskies are ranked 566th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Columbia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jose Rivera, who rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Rivera a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Menge, who rushed for 110 yards and one score on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Columbia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 332 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Columbia's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Ambrose Beach was the leader with two.

Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Northwestern, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Columbia and Northwestern will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Raiders will take on rival Wellington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Northwestern is set to challenge their familiar foe Norwayne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
