Baseball Recap: Century Victorious

Century's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Cobden Appleknockers. The Centurions haven't had any issues with the Appleknockers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Jackson McHughs and Adam Taake were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, McHughs pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Taake struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for Century: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. At the plate, McHughs went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Taake went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three runs gave McHughs a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryce Windings was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

Century's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Cobden, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Century will challenge Webber at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cobden, they will take on Agape Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.44 runs per game on average), something the Appleknockers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
