Basketball Recap: Phelps Comes Up Short

Phelps lost against Shelby Valley back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The match between the Phelps Hornets and the Shelby Valley Wildcats didn't end well, with the Phelps Hornets falling 73-58.

Despite the loss, Phelps saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tyler Weddington dropped a double-double with 20 points and 20 boards. The dominant performance also gave Weddington a new career-high in field goal percentage (90%). Knox Wallace was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Phelps' defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Shelby Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Phelps didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-51 loss against Tug Valley on the 7th. As for Shelby Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 78-74 win against Prestonsburg on the 8th.
