Basketball Recap: Piedra Vista Takes a Loss

Piedra Vista came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Volcano Vista Hawks, falling 52-26. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Piedra Vista lost, don't look at Tyra Holyan. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 14 en route to 16 points and seven rebounds. Holyan's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Volcano Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jalysa Hines, who posted 11 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Hines is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zoey Loretto, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 12 points.

Piedra Vista's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Volcano Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Volcano Vista, they will host Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Volcano Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
