Football Recap: Lakeland Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Lakeland entered their tilt with Mid Valley on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They strolled past the Spartans with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. This was payback for the Chiefs, who suffered a 34-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

David Naniewicz had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 173 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 143 yards and one TD. Those 173 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Roberts, who rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lakeland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 171 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Lakeland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Chase Rosenkrans.

Lakeland's record now sits at 9-1. As for Mid Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Lakeland will host Holy Redeemer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs will be up against the Royals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mid Valley, they will head out on the road to take on Carbondale Area at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
