Baseball Recap: Maine South Gets the Win

Maine South took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Homewood-Flossmoor, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Maine South skirted past Homewood-Flossmoor 2-1. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 10-3 win the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Cole Mutchler tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Maine South's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Constantine Coines, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Alex Vale also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Maine South's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maine South will square off against Lincoln-Way East at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lincoln-Way East will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Maine South surely won't give up without a fight. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they will face off against Kenwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
