Basketball Recap: Portageville Takes a Loss

Portageville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-43 loss to the New Madrid County Central Eagles. The Bulldogs lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 80-50 score last time.

Portageville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for New Madrid County Central, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portageville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Holcomb at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portageville is facing Holcomb at the right time seeing as Holcomb is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for New Madrid County Central, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on East Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
