Van had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They snuck past the Sunnyvale Sunnyvale with a 42-38 victory on Friday. The Vandals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Sunnyvale, too.

When it comes to explaining why Sunnyvale lost, don't look at Cayson Maupin. Despite the final result, he threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 15.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave Maupin a new career-high in rushing yards. A healthy portion of Maupin's aerial production (107 yards to be exact) went to Joshua Mcdill.

The win was the third in a row for Van, bringing their record for this year to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.7 points per game. As for Sunnyvale, they moved to 9-4 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.
