Baseball Recap: North Putnam Wins Going Away Against White River Valley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greencastle, North Putnam was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They blew past the White River Valley Wolverines 18-0. The matchup marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season.

Corbin Conner tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Alec McKenzie was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kellen Windmiller, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

North Putnam always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

North Putnam's record now sits at 5-7. As for White River Valley, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

North Putnam and White River Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Cougars (ranked 251st) will meet Cascade (ranked 79th) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, White River Valley will take on Owen Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (370 vs. 133).
