Thomas MacLaren School took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Canon City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders won by a set and slipped past the Canon City Tigers 3-2. The win was familiar territory for the Highlanders, who have now won four games in a row.

Thomas MacLaren School had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-9.

Chase Vadala paced Thomas MacLaren School's offense, picking up 15 kills. Vadala really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with 19. Finally, Benny Ambuul kept Thomas MacLaren School's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Canon City lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Noah Donald, who had 18 digs. He has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last three times he's played. Maikah Aragon also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Thomas MacLaren School's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Canon City, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-4.

Thomas MacLaren School wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Atlas Preparatory School on the 19th. Canon City will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rocky Mountain Prep SMART at 6:00 p.m. on April 1st.
