Basketball Game Preview: Freeman Mavericks vs. Godwin Eagles

Freeman hasn't had much luck against Godwin recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Freeman Mavericks just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Godwin Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Freeman will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Freeman is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Hermitage: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Freeman blew Hermitage out of the water with a 59-29 final score. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Panthers are ranked 244th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Addie Morton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 20 points. The match was her 12th in a row with at least ten points. Jane Miller was another key player, scoring 12 points.

Meanwhile, Godwin narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Matoaca 58-56.

Freeman's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Godwin, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Freeman came up short against Godwin when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 42-37. Can Freeman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
