Softball Recap: Bassick Lions vs. Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars
Bassick extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-7. They lost 17-1 to the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 22-8 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Kolbe-Cathedral, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-6 record. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
For Kolbe-Cathedral's part, Tyiana Conquest made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Conquest was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played.
In other batting news, Iyanna Aristy was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Samantha Galarza, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bassick will welcome Masuk at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
