Maloney faced Conard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans fell just short of the Red Wolves by a score of 3-2. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Maloney took Conard into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 16-25, 15-8.

When it comes to explaining why Maloney lost, don't look at Abdiel Cividanes. Despite the final result, he had 20 digs.

Maloney's loss dropped their record down to 20-2. As for Conard, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 20-0.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After both having extra time off, Maloney and East Hartford will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Conard, they will take on Ridgefield on Wednesday.
