Softball Recap: Midland Chemics vs. Goodrich Martians
Midland extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goodrich Martians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Martians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Thursday.
As for Goodrich, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.
For Goodrich's part, the result came thanks to Abby Stefanski's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits. Stefanski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jayden Gohs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Alisyn Raether was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Midland will challenge Bay City Western at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chemics' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Goodrich, they will square off against Lake Fenton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Martians 2.4, the Blue Devils 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
