Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Steamboat Springs Sailors
The Basalt Longhorns struggled with assists on Friday (the Steamboat Springs Sailors had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Basalt took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Steamboat Springs. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Basalt has scored all season.
Calum Inglis and Taylor Hays certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Inglis scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Hays scored 11 points. Inglis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played.
Steamboat Springs was led to victory by Michael Dinapoli and Jeffrey Sturges. Dinapoli scored 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Sturges scored 16 points along with eight assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Sturges posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Campbell, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Basalt and nudges their season record down to 6-7. As for Steamboat Springs, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-7.
Basalt will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Coal Ridge at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully Coal Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday. As for Steamboat Springs, they will head out on the road to face off against Summit at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Summit is ranked 144th, while Steamboat Springs is ranked 150th).
