Baseball Recap: Belen Jesuit Takes a Loss

Belen Jesuit fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against St. Brendan on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the St. Brendan Sabres by a score of 4-3. The Wolverines' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Belen Jesuit got a good showing from Max Aspuru, who struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Aspuru has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jake Cueto was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Julian Alber also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

Belen Jesuit now has a losing record of 3-4. As for St. Brendan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Belen Jesuit will square off against Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Brendan, they will face off against Keys Gate at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Brendan's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Keys Gate's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
