Basketball Recap: Harnett Central Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cape Fear Christian Academy on Friday, Harnett Central came back down to earth. The Trojans were beaten by the Overhills Jaguars 68-19 on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Harnett Central saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emma Avery shot 50% from the field on her way to 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Aiyana Bynum, who posted two points and nine rebounds.

Najiha Allen went supernova For Overhills., dropping a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. The matchup was Allen's sixth in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paris Autry, who went 8-for-12 en route to 20 points.

Harnett Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Overhills, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Harnett Central and Triton will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest, having both just played. As for Overhills, they will be taking part in a tournament against NC GBB Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
