The Redding Christian Lions will take on the Modoc Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Redding Christian will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Redding Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Weed, posting a 61-18 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Cougars are ranked 1012th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Redding Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wyatt Shaw, who threw for 205 yards and six TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. Shaw has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last eight times he's played. Brodie Ogden was in the mix too, providing Redding Christian with two scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Redding Christian proved: they limited Weed to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. Redding Christian's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up 14 sacks. It was truly a group effort as Kamdyn Coates, Ogden, and Caden Russo picked up two apiece. Thanks to that big game, Russo is now up to 11 sacks on the season. Collin Matos got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Modoc entered their game against Trinity on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Braves fell 20-13 to the Wolves. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, the Braves couldn't push the score so high this time.
Redding Christian will have to contain Sutton Cockrell as he made an impact in Modoc's last game. He rushed for 164 yards.
Modoc's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Redding Christian, their record now sits at 10-0.
Everything came up roses for Redding Christian against Modoc in their previous matchup back in October, as the team secured a 60-6 victory. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Braves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
