Baseball Recap: Fountain Valley Comes Up Short

Fountain Valley extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 11-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Newport Harbor Sailors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Barons have suffered since March 25th.

Tyler Peshke made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Anthony Zamora was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Newport Harbor, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.

On Newport Harbor's side, Lucas Perez made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Perez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Guy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Adam Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Fountain Valley will welcome Marina at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Barons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newport Harbor, they will head out to square off against Huntington Beach at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Oilers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Sailors surely won't give up without a fight.
