Volleyball Recap: Beachwood Takes a Loss

After flying high against Richmond Heights on Wednesday, Beachwood came back down to earth. The Bison came up short against the Independence Blue Devils on Thursday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Bison in their meetings with the Blue Devils: they've now lost eight in a row.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Independence scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.

Riley Dodds paced Beachwood's offense, picking up six kills. Dodds got some help from Casie B and her 11 assists. Miriam Aschkenasy controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Independence's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julia Jurkiewicz, who had four digs and two aces. Jurkiewicz is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 13 every time she's taken the court this season.

Beachwood's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Independence, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Beachwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Cuyahoga Heights on the 29th. As for Independence, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Lake Catholic on the 27th.
