Football Recap: North Salinas Takes a Loss + How To Watch

North Salinas suffered their biggest loss since October 26, 2024 on Thursday. They took a blow against the Soquel Knights, falling 41-12. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

Jose Dueas threw for 50 yards and one TD. Matt Ruiz was his top target, picking up 32 receiving yards.

Sam Whelan had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 23 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 224 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes for Soquel. What's more, Whelan racked up 157.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Keyandre Bailey, who rushed for 114 yards.

This is the second loss in a row for North Salinas and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Soquel, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Salinas will host Palma at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Chieftains have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Soquel, they will welcome Hollister at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
