Football Recap: Tyner Academy Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Tyner Academy walked away with it. They walked away with a 33-20 win over the Watertown Purple Tigers on Friday. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Purple Tigers are ranked 139th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tyner Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamarion Dowdell, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 62 yards and one score. Dowdell showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 66 yards. Marcus Turner was another key passer, throwing for 156 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes.

Tyner Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for Watertown, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Coming up, Tyner Academy will square off against Unicoi County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 919 yards in their previous games. Watertown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
