Basketball Recap: Louisburg Warriors vs. Granville Central Panthers
If the Louisburg Warriors were riding high off their 64-31 takedown of the J.F. Webb Warriors last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Louisburg took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Louisburg has not had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Louisburg saw an underclassman step up: Josh Smith almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Jakobe Edgerton was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Louisburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Granville Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cj Alston led the charge by scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Alston is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trent Harrington, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Louisburg's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Granville Central, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Louisburg will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Vipers at 7:30 p.m. Granville Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Southern Durham has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 806 points over their last ten matchups.
