Softball Recap: Kent-Meridian Royals vs. Auburn Mountainview Lions
Kent-Meridian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 30 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-12. They lost 16-1 to the Auburn Mountainview Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-1 back in March.
As for Auburn Mountainview, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Considering they have won six games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Auburn Mountainview's part, McKenna Ward made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Ward a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lila Heigh was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Kisling, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Kent-Meridian will take on Beamer at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.4 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Auburn Mountainview, they will challenge White River at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
