Baseball Recap: St. Michael's Triumphs

St. Michael let Hyde Park stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Tuesday but luckily St. Michael's prevailed anyway. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in February.

Rory Stewart looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because St. Michael's is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 9-13-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

The win made it two in a row for St. Michael's and bumps their season record up to 13-14-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 6-14 Hyde Park and 9-10 TMI-Episcopal. As for Hyde Park, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, St. Michael's will host TMI-Episcopal at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hyde Park, they are taking a road trip to face off against St. Stephen's Episcopal at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
