Baseball Game Preview: Sturgeon Bay Clippers vs. Marinette Marines

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will head out to challenge the Marinette Marines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sturgeon Bay will be strutting in after a win while Marinette will be coming in after a loss.

While Clippers fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They had just enough and edged out Green Bay Southwest 4-3 on Tuesday.

Patrick Haese was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Haese was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Haese wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Plzak, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Marinette unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 11-3 to Oshkosh North on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Marines have suffered since May 6, 2024.

Sawyer Walters made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Everything went Sturgeon Bay's way against Marinette in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, as Sturgeon Bay made off with a 16-9 victory. Will the Clippers repeat their success, or do the Marines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
