Baseball Recap: Sevier County Smoky Bears vs. Jefferson County Patriots
Sevier County had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 9-11 to make it eight. They lost 11-1 to the Jefferson County Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 on Monday.
As for Jefferson County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Jefferson County's part, Brody Carr made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Carr has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Drew Molter was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Young, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sevier County will challenge Smoky Mountain at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson County, they will take on Gate City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
