Not much got past KAITLYN MARSH, who gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Vernon Hills off the board. MARSH has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on ABIGAYLE GARCIA, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of ALONDRA CONTRERAS, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Maine South not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 14-4). They blew past Highland Park 10-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.
Maine South also got a great performance from Sibelle Stevens as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Christina Piotrowski and Aubrey Mazza did most of the damage at the plate: Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Mazza went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Peyton Santore, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Maine South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only managed one hit.
Maine West's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Maine South, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Maine West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maine South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Maine West might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Maine South in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
