Recap: Wheat Ridge Farmers vs. Mountain Range Mustangs
If the Wheat Ridge Farmers were riding high off their 82-23 takedown of the Mitchell Marauders on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Wheat Ridge fell 68-57 to Mountain Range on Wednesday. Even though they lost, Wheat Ridge's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.3 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Wheat Ridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaac Mccune, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Nick Dalton was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Range to victory, but perhaps none more so than Quincy Helsel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Helsel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Brunton, who scored 17 points.
Wheat Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mountain Range, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-2.
Wheat Ridge will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on December 14th. Hopefully Lakewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. Mountain Range will be home for the holidays to greet Standley Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Standley Lake is ranked 193rd, while Mountain Range is ranked 174th).
