Basketball Recap: Ayanna Goode Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

North won the last time they faced Fairfax and things went their way on Monday too. The North Mustangs strolled past the Fairfax Stampede with points to spare, taking the game 56-39. The Mustangs pushed the score to 44-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Stampede cut but never quite recovered from.

North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayanna Goode, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 17 points and seven rebounds. Goode has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Esefani Brunson, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Fairfax still got an impressive performance from Mel Romero, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashanti Leal, who posted 11 points and three steals.

North now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Fairfax, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

North didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-37 victory against South Mountain on the 4th. As for Fairfax, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 41-38 win against Desert Edge on the 4th.
