Baseball Recap: La Salle's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

La Salle came out on top against St. Xavier on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Lancers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bombers 7-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lancers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Kellan Riesenbeck tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of La Salle's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Isaac Goldschmidt was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. La Salle is undefeated when Goldschmidt posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Colin Bobowski was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.

The victory got La Salle back to even at 8-8. As for St. Xavier, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-10.

Coincidentally, La Salle and St. Xavier will both be playing Badin the next time they take the field. The Bombers will host the Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Lancers will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
