Football Recap: Bastrop Bears vs. Liberty Hill Panthers

After flying high against Pflugerville last Saturday, Bastrop came back down to earth. The Bears were outmatched by the Liberty Hill Panthers and fell 48-14. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Bastrop's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Gary Jefferson Jr. and Weston Nielsen. Jefferson Jr. rushed for 66 yards and one score, while Nielsen threw for 158 yards on 18 of 29 attempts.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Pierre Dylan Belinga and Jack Travis Pitchford. Dylan Belinga rushed for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry while Travis Pitchford rushed for 72 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. Dylan Belinga really tore up the turf during one magnificent 87-yard run.

Having lost for the first time this season, Bastrop fell to 9-1. As for Liberty Hill, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Coming up, Bastrop will challenge Burbank at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Liberty Hill, they have already played their next game, a 62-0 win against Lanier on the 13th.
