Baseball Recap: Erskine Academy Eagles vs. Morse Shipbuilders
Erskine Academy had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it four. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morse Shipbuilders. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Shipbuilders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Erskine Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Ulmer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those runs were Ulmer's first of the season. Jacob Lavallee was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Morse's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Morse's side, Eli Sommers made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sommers has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Caden Wells was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Murray, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.
