Softball Game Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. Purvis Tornadoes

Stone is 0-3 against Purvis since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Tomcats will head out to take on the Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Friday, Stone needed a bit of extra time to put away Wayne County. They put the hurt on the War EaglesLady War Eagles with a sharp 14-8 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tomcats.

Samantha Williamson and Brianna Williamson did most of the damage at the plate: Samantha went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Brianna went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most runs Samantha has posted since back in February. Grace Wicker also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Purvis nor Wayne County made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Tornadoes blew past the War EaglesLady War Eagles 11-3. The victory continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with the War EaglesLady War Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Jadie Byrd - 2027 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lily Reynolds - 2027, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Tiyah Evans - 2026 was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Purvis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne County only posted a batting average of .219.

Stone's record is now 14-8. As for Purvis, their record now sits at 10-4.

Stone suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Purvis in their previous matchup back in February of 2025. Can the Tomcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
