After both having extra time off, the St. John's Mavericks and the St. Stephen's Episcopal Spartans will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. John's will be strutting in after a win while St. Stephen's Episcopal will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, St. John's was able to grind out a solid victory over Kinkaid, taking the game 3-1.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22.
St. John's found their leader in sophomore Sammie Berzin, who had eight digs and two aces.
St. John's was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Meanwhile, St. Stephen's Episcopal lost 3-0 to St. Andrew's two weeks ago. The Spartans have struggled against the Highlanders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The final score came out to 25-19, 25-12, 25-11.
St. Stephen's Episcopal's defeat dropped their record down to 14-24. As for St. John's, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-15 record this season.
St. John's came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Stephen's Episcopal in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
