Baseball Game Preview: Progreso Red Ants vs. Port Isabel Tarpons

The Progreso Red Ants are taking a road trip to take on the Port Isabel Tarpons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Progreso has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Progreso took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 26-13 margin over Santa Rosa. The Red Ants' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Martin Garcia Jr. and Clemente Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia Jr. went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Torres got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave Torres a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isael Trevino, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Progreso always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Port Isabel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 6-2 to Hidalgo Early College.

Port Isabel saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Estes, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Progreso's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Port Isabel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10-1.

Progreso couldn't quite finish off Port Isabel in their previous matchup back in April of 2016 and fell 3-1. Can the Red Ants avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
