The Piedmont Hills Pirates will face off against the San Jose Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Piedmont Hills sitting on five straight wins and San Jose on four.
Piedmont Hills gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 21-13 victory over Silver Creek.
Piedmont Hills got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alijah Torres out in front who rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Julian Petty got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, San Jose never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed past Mt. Pleasant to the tune of 38-0. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four contests by 31 points or more so far this season.
Piedmont Hills better keep an eye on Omar Gomez. He was instrumental in San Jose's win, rushing for 145 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 75 yards. Chris Carrillo was another key rusher, rushing for 71 yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: San Jose was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 478 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 205 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups.
One reason for the win was San Jose's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Mt. Pleasant's QB won't forget Damian Reyes anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Reyes is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season.
Piedmont Hills' record now sits at 7-3. As for San Jose, their record is now an identical 7-3.
Everything came up roses for Piedmont Hills against San Jose in their previous matchup back in September of 2017, as the squad secured a 57-20 victory. In that game, the Pirates amassed a halftime lead of 36-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
