Baseball Recap: Troy Gets the Win

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Troy and Genesee, and Troy kept the tradition alive. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Trojans have beaten the Bulldogs the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.

Dominic Holden was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Makhi Durrett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Payton Christensen, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Troy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Troy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Genesee, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Troy beat the Bulldogs by a score of 23-0 later that day.
