Recap: Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles vs. Junction City Bluejays

The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Junction City Bluejays on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bluejays. While losing is never fun, Bishop Carroll can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Junction City is ranked 17th).

Bishop Carroll lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braxton Martin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was John Hauserman, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Bishop Carroll were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Bishop Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Junction City, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Bishop Carroll will head out on the road to face off against Kapaun Mt. Carmel at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kapaun Mt. Carmel knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Bishop Carroll likes a good challenge. Junction City will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washburn Rural at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Washburn Rural is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
