Baseball Recap: Churchill's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Churchill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Ashland Grizzlies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since March 25th.

Donovan Jackson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Churchill is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Churchill let Brady Bousquet and Carlos Barajas run wild. Bousquet went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI, while Barajas got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave Barajas a new career-high.

The win snapped Churchill's losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 4-7 record. As for Ashland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Churchill will have a chance to go back-to-back against Ashland: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
