Soccer Recap: Athens' Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

After flying high against Towanda on Wednesday, Athens came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Elmira Express by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The matchup was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Athens couldn't quite close it out.

Having lost for the first time this season, Athens fell to 6-1-1. As for Elmira, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-1-1 record this season.

Athens will take on Williamson at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elmira, they will look to defend their home pitch on Tuesday against Horseheads at 7:15 p.m.
