Basketball Recap: Sulphur Bluff Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Sulphur Bluff, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They had just enough and edged the Union Hill Bulldogs out 52-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since November 15, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Union Hill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore EJ Mowery went 8 for 19 on his way to 27 points and eight rebounds. Mowery's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Brent Lively was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Sulphur Bluff's victory bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Union Hill, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sulphur Bluff will venture away from home to take on Avinger at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sulphur Bluff is facing Avinger at the right time seeing as Avinger is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Union Hill, they will challenge Saltillo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Saltillo's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
