Baseball Recap: Pinckneyville Wins Going Away Against Cobden

While Pinckneyville put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Cobden. Pinckneyville put the hurt on Cobden with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Appleknockers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Michael Brand was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brand was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abel Clark and Kolton Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Clark scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Smith scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Cleland, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Pinckneyville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cobden only posted a batting average of .071.

Pinckneyville's record now sits at 5-3. As for Cobden, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinckneyville will host Trico at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cobden, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Carbondale at 11:00 a.m. Cobden's pitchers better be ready for this one: Carbondale has averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
